Rad Plaid Cowl


The cowl begins with a provisional cast on and is then knit as a tube in the round, twisted once and grafted together using the Kitchener stitch.The colorwork is a 3 color slipped stitch pattern using one color at a time.  The pattern repeat is only 6 rounds so the pattern is easy to learn and do.  The provisional cast-on and kitchener stitch will be taught in class.

Required skills: This is NOT a Learn to Knit class. It's advanced beginner. 


  • Fingering weight yarn, 100g each in 2 colors:
    • 100g for the main, solid color and
    • 100g in one variegated color to add interest in the slip stitch pattern
  • Fingering weight mohair - 197 yards
  • US 3 - 16” length.  A second needle of the same size is needed to finish the cowl
  • Waste yarn
  • Stitch markers
  • Crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Row counter will be helpful

Main color: Urth Fingering, Plymouth Yakima, Malabrigo Mechita, Manos Alpaca Heather, Dream in Color Smooshy Cashmere

Please make sure to have all materials purchased, including the pattern, (and yarn wound) prior to class. 

It is highly recommended that you swatch in the round to ensure you meet gauge.  Swatching instructions are on page 3 in the pattern. 


Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill Details: Advanced Beginner. This is NOT a Learn to Knit class. Required are casting on, knitting, purling, knitting in the round. If you have completed Beyond the Basics at our shoppe you can move onto this class.
Materials Included: Materials sold separately and must be purchased from Lambshoppe. Pattern available on Ravelry.
Instructor: Gerry
Instructor Bio: Gerry has been with the Lamb Shoppe for about 3 years and a knitting instructor for 2 years. Sweater knitting is probably her most favorite knitting activity, but she is well versed in hats, mitts, and shawls. Gerry has spent a lot of time reading and learning about fit, yarn qualities, and gauge. Her strength lies in selecting the right size in patterns and what yarn best fits what you are looking for in your garment. The Novice Sweater class has been well received by patrons of the Lamb Shoppe. She also likes to focus on techniques and skills such as 2 at a time mitt knitting with magic loop, another of her favorite classes. Gerry strives to foster a sense of community and wants to support her students in elevating their knitting knowledge and skills.
There will be an additional cost for materials that must be purchased at Lambshoppe.
