Ranunculus Sweater

Ranunculus is a top down yoked sweater with lace and textured stitches. It is a very popular knitting pattern with 20,000 plus projects within Ravelry. The beauty of this pattern is you can use any yarn from a lace weight to a worsted weight. You can also choose to do a wide or more narrow neckline and short or longer sleeves. The lace weight version makes for a light and airy sweater where the worsted weight creates a more structured version. You get to decide! The designer has published many videos that go along with the pattern. You will learn 1 of 2 cast-ons for the neck you choose. You will also get to learn German short rows.
This knits up quickly and makes a lovely look that many people knit over and over with different yarn for differing effects.
Please note: This is not a learn to knit class. Students will have made one simple sweater.
Supplies: See pattern for yardage needed (Purchase pattern here). If you wish to lengthen your sweater you should buy extra yarn.
Needles:
-
US 10 for neck and body of sweater. Use a 16” circular if making narrower neckline. 32” should be adequate for the body of the sweater
-
US 8 is used for the hem ribbing and sleeve trim.
-
You may need to adjust needle size to reach gauge.
Notions: Crochet hook for narrow neckline cast-on. Stitch markers, waste yarn, scissors, tapestry needle.
Other information/Homework:
- Review the Ravelry projects for suggestions on yarns and modifications.
- Before the first class, have your yarn wound.
- Knit a large gauge swatch in the round. Measure your gauge when swatch is done. Block your swatch and measure gauge again. Bring this information to the first class.
