Novice Sweater - Flax Edition

If you are new to sweater making or just want to refine your sweater making skills…this class is for you.  We will discuss choosing the right size, ease, choosing the right yarn, how to determine your gauge and swatch for the best outcome.  The Flax sweater includes sizing from infant to adult sizes. Flax is a top down knit with raglan sleeves.  You can choose to knit this sweater with or without short rows.   It is a great sweater for first time makers. The pattern can be obtained on Ravelry or the Tin Can Knits App (See below of app info).  It is a free pattern.

Pattern: Flax Worsted

Pattern: Flax DK

Flax Sweater is also available in the Tin Can Knits app in multiple weights of yarn from fingering weight to Worsted/Aran weights.  The app has the value of showing only the size you pick to make as well as giving you multiple free patterns.  Download the app below. You may use the app or a paper pattern in class

Required skills: This is NOT a Learn to Knit class. Students must be able to cast on, knit, purl, and knit in the round on circular needles without assistance to be successful in this class. You do not have to have ever made a sweater. If you have completed Beyond the Basics at our shop you can move on to this class.

Supplies to bring to all classes:

Determine the weight of the sweater you wish to make.  I recommend only using DK or worsted weight. Fingering weight yarn makes a lovely sweater but is more time consuming and may be difficult for less experienced knitters. Get the paper pattern or the Tin Can Knits App. Purchase your yarn prior to class.

Worsted Yarn recommendations: Hikoo Simpliworsted, Plymouth SW Merino, Ella Rae Cashmerino, Plymouth Homestead Tweed, Juniper Moon Moonshine, Juniper Moon Saxony, Malabrigo Rios. Cascade 220.

DK Yarn recommendations: Hikoo Simplicity, Hikoo Sueno, Hikoo Sueno Tweed, Ella Rae Eco Tweed, Manos Del Uruguay Sami, Rowan Felted Tweed, and Rowan Cotton Cashmere

Purchase the amount of yarn needed for your size and yarn weight. Choose the size you think is best and we will discuss sizing further in class.

Notions needed: stitch markers, tapestry needle, ruler, 2 lengths of thin smooth waste yarn approx 18" , and scissors.
