Intermediate Embroidery/Intro to Crewel Embroidery

The class project is a Cherry Blossom Sampler designed by Tawnya and exclusive to LambShoppe. Working with crewel weight wool, we will explore the differences that stitching with wool brings.
Over the course of the three sessions students will learn to fill areas with satin, padded satin and fishbone stitches. They will get plenty of practice on fundamental crewel stitches with outline, stem and split stitch. Students will learn to apply accents with straight stitch and Danish knot.
Students will finish the class with the skills to paint the world with thread.
Supplies: to be purchased at Lamb Shoppe
1) DMC Eco Vita Wool Thread in 6 colors
Samples are embroidered using:
--Pink Flowers:

--Peach Flowers:

3) sharp tip crewel embroidery needles, embroidery hoop, needle threader (if using a hook style needle threader be sure to check that the hook will fit through the eye of the needles), needle-minder, small scissors.

Instructor Bio: | Tawnya has had a lifelong love affair with threads, fibers, and textiles and began learning to embroider when she was five. The following year she learned to knit in Primary School and the rest is history. She has explored everything from sailor's knots to tatting, crochet and of course embroidery! If it has to do with string, she's into it. She probably was a cat in another life. While she is from Colorado, she traveled the world as a child spending half of her childhood in Europe and Asia. She continues to travel whenever possible with her husband. Much of her career has been spent teaching software and accounting skills to employees and volunteers of nonprofits around the country. She is excited to explore the wonderful universe of tiny (and not so tiny) stitches with new friends at LambShoppe. |
