Socktoberfest - Joyful Colorwork Socks!
In this class, we will be using the book "Joyful Colorwork Socks" by Charlotte Stone to explore stranded colorwork and its nuances when it comes to sock knitting. Participants will use one pattern from the book for class, and we will discuss tension, color dominance, carrying floats, and sizing considerations. We will also explore the short row heel, which may be a new technique for those used to the heel flap and turn process.
Materials:
Book: Joyful Colorwork Socks by Charlotte Stone
Yarn: Pattern dependent, but in general, 100 g of a main color and small amounts of contrast colors.
Needles: US 1 DPNs or 32" circular for magic loop (or whatever needles get you the right gauge). Two at a time socks are not recommended in this class.
Other: Tapestry needle, scissors, locking stitch markers, gauge ruler, etc.
Homework:
Purchase materials, choose a pattern in the book, and do a gauge swatch. When happy with your needles and gauge for your pattern, proceed to choose a size and cast on and knit the ribbing. You are welcome to use any cast on method you choose; Rachel recommends the tubular cast on for a stretchy edge. Long tail is also completely fine. Please come to class with the ribbing (cuff) complete and ready to dive into stranded colorwork!
Syllabus:
Class 1: Stranded colorwork and special considerations for socks and colorwork
Class 2: Short row heel and other varieties, depending on which patterns have been chosen
Class 3: Review of heel and troubleshooting, foot
Class 4: Finishing and kitchener stitch, as applicable
